You start at the Dientner Sattel at the Mittereggalm. From there, the trail leads through an idyllic forest towards the Tiergartenalm. As soon as you reach the Kingscab gondola lift route, a specially prepared ascent track for ski tourers awaits you.This leads you to the mountain station of the Kingscab and Dachegg cable car. You then head into open terrain along the ridge to the summit of the Ahornstein at 1,855 metres.
The tour stretches over around 4.4 kilometres and requires an ascent of around 530 metres in altitude. It takes around 2.5 hours to reach the summit, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama.
For the descent, it is advisable to follow the ascent route, especially if there is an increased risk of avalanches. In safe conditions, however, you can ski directly eastwards to the Klingelbergalm. Without good knowledge of the area, it is advisable to stay on the familiar route or join a guided group.
Don't forget to bring your ski touring equipment including crampons, first aid kit and bivouac sack. A rucksack with a hot drink and a light snack rounds off the preparation.
